The Government of Malaysia places high emphasis on the development of public transport in urban centre with high population density such as Klang Valley in Malaysia.

The Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) is one of the latest modern train systems developed for Greater Kuala Lumpur. The first line (51 km, 31 stations), known as the Sungai Buloh-Kajang line (SBK) has already been in operation for a few years.

Eco-Ideal has been appointed to assist the Government and MRT Corp Malaysia to ascertain the environmental benefit of the MRT, with particular focus on the quantification of carbon (greenhouse gases) emissions reduction using internationally recognised methodology. The study is commissioned under the on-going Green Technology Application for Low Carbon Cities implemented by Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA) and supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Malaysia.
