Brief Project Description

  • Solid waste management is one of the environmental concerns that have been highlighted over the last few years in Malaysia. The rapid urbanization of the country results in the increasing pressure of better management of solid waste generated. With most of the current disposal sites reaching the life span, the government requires to develop a systematic planning for future solid waste management. DANIDA has identified this technical assistance need and included solid waste management as one of the thematic area under its Environmental Cooperation Programme (ECP) in Malaysia. Our task was to assist in documenting the existing situation of solid waste management in Malaysia. Apart from technical description, we also studied legal and institutional set up of the solid waste management and the information will form the basis to deriving technical assistance strategies and work plans for DANIDA and Malaysian Government.
