Subsidiaries of QL Resources Berhad are venturing into generating renewable energy from biogas coming from palm oil mill effluent in their mill located in Tawau of Sabah. The project will capture methane which will otherwise be released to the atmosphere, can generate up to 2 MW of green energy.

Another project involves the conversion of palm biomass (empty fruit bunches or EFB) to biomass pellets. EFB will normally be disposed to land and causing methane release as well. The conversion of EFB to renewable fuel such as pellet is an emerging direction towards sustainable development.

Eco-Ideal has been engaged to assist in the CDM application process for the two projects described above.
