UM Cares is a special unit established in the University of Malaya to spearhead environmental initiatives within the campus. UM Cares recently held an inter-faculty environmental competition with an attractive 1st price of RM 10,000.00!

Our CEO Engr. Soon Hun Yang had the privilege to join the panel of judges in the final evaluation of the initiatives carried out by the different faculties participating.

The judging was carried out with visits to the different participating faculties and a set of evaluation criteria were used to decide the winner. The efforts observed ranges from setting up of a recreational park with elements of conservation (a very rare cannonball tree was part of the park!) and waste reuse (active reuse of abandoned material), to efforts in minimising paper usage by optimising type setting and reporting, to various awareness campaigns in instilling care for the environment.

Overall, UM Care’s initiative is highly commendable.
