Energy efficiency in sewage treatment has large potential in energy conservations

Eco-Ideal Consulting has been engaged by Indah Water Konsortium Sdn Bhd (IWK), the largest sewerage operator in Malaysia, to prepare a guideline to facilitate efficient energy management in their operations.

The field of sewage system is an excellent area to initiate energy efficiency program as there are many methods and processes to treat wastewater, as well as high potential of energy conservation. Typically, approximately 30 percent of the operational cost of a wastewater treatment plant is budgeted for energy cost. Thus, improving energy efficiency could potentially lead to significant operational cost savings.

In a time when the concerns about the cost of energy and energy security is at its all time high, it is imperative that the design and operations of wastewaster treatment facilities as well as the management of said services follow a system that promotes efficiency in energy consumption.

Eco-Ideal will endeavour to provide innovative and practical guidance to IWK in achieving their goals of reducing the ecological footprint (increase green image) of sewage treatment in Malaysia while saving significant operating cost and thus increase competitive edge of the company.
