Eco-Ideal Consulting has been engaged as the CDM consultant for a biogas (methane) recovery from palm oil mill effluent project located in Kluang, Johor.
Sg Kahang Palm Oil Sdn Bhd is an existing independent private palm oil mill generating substantial amount of palm oil mill effluent (POME). Currently, POME is treated with open anaerobic lagoons, followed by aerobic treatment and polishing before final discharge. In view of the potential to recover and utilise the methane gas generated from the POME treatment, Sg Kahang Palm Oil Sdn Bhd is planning to invest in upgrading of the POME treatment by introducing closed tank aerobic digestions. This advancement of technology will lead to improved efficiency of the treatment of the POME (save land space, more efficient and controlled treatment etc.). The project would also allow renewable energy from the recovered biogas to be utilised on-site for additional processing of biomass waste. With such voluntary endeavour that can reduce the greenhouse gas emission to the atmosphere, Sg Kahang Palm Oil Sdn Bhd is eligible to apply the project under the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM).
Eco-Ideal’s past experiences in Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) consultancy and palm oil mill waste management are valuable to this project. The project is currently undergoing validation process by a selected Designated Operating Entity.
