The EU-Asia Solid Waste Management Conference 29-30 October 2008 at Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia
Eco-Ideal Consulting Sdn Bhd will be highlighting these challenges in a paper presentation at the coming European Union-Asia Solid Waste Management Conference. The EU-Asia Solid Waste Management Conference, co-funded by Asia Pro Eco Programme, will be held from 28th to 30th September, at the Impiana Casuarina Hotel, Ipoh, Perak.
The paper entitled ‘New Challenges in Establishing an Integrated Data Management System for National Solid Waste Management in Malaysia’, will be presented by Mr. Luk Ing Ping, Environmental Information System Management, on the first day of the conference, during Parallel Session B(II) that focuses on technology innovations for future solid waste management.
Luk will be touching on the changes in our solid waste management system with the introduction of the new Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Act 2007, the challenges to service providers and regulators, especially with regards to data sourcing, collection and management. The presentation will propose a model in developing an integrated national solid waste data management system to meet the above challenges that is supported by a powerful relational database known as GeoEnviron (a server based centralized database).
The database, which was designed to integrate all spatial and non spatial data with various other software including Geographical/Geospatial Information System (GIS), word processing software, internet, can form an important tool for future policy making, planning, monitoring and enforcement of solid waste management.
