Eco-Ideal successfully assisted KUB-Berjaya Enviro Sdn. Bhd. (KBE) in conducting a stakeholder meeting on the proposed landfill gas recovery and utilization at Bukit Tagar Sanitary Landfill located in State of Selangor. This consultation process is part of the requirement under the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) application process on 22 Jan 08. KBE is the developer and operator of the Bukit Tagar Sanitary Landfill located in the Hulu Selangor district of the State of Selangor, Malaysia. Bukit Tagar Landfill is a modern sanitary landfill that has been designed to meet all the environmental standards stipulated under Malaysian law. Recognizing the importance of counteracting global warming processes as well as the potential of landfill gas as an energy source, KBE is planning to invest in technology to recover landfill gas for flaring and energy generation.

The power generated from the landfill gas, will be used to replace fossil fuel based grid power they are using today. The project is also in line with KBE’s “Zero Emission” policy whereby all emissions from the landfill should be prevented. Today, leachate or wastewater generated from the landfill is treated with advanced technology on-site and no discharges to the rivers are allowed. With the implementation of the gas recovering system, Bukit Tagar will be the role model of modern, environmental friendly sanitary landfill in Malaysia.
