Maponomics – Economic Growth Thorough Geo-Information Technology
Throughout Asia, areas critical to economic development of a country – health, agriculture, construction, energy supply, infrastructure, etc. have seen pragmatic diffusion of geo-technologies among themselves. These sectors as constituents of economy of a country have come to fare well with the application of GIS – the technology that aids efficient planning and decision making. Also, the Knowledge Economy, which includes enhanced skill sets of individuals aiding a nation’s growth, has too been benefited with advancements in Geo-Information technologies (GIT).
The two-pronged economic growth backed by application and usage of GIT – one which enables expansion of economic activities in a given community thereby raising living standards of individuals and second, that aids private industry to reap more benefits through geo-technologies and adding to the countries’ national income –would be the highlight of Map Asia 2007. Multiple aspects of GIS-linked economic growth would be the part of deliberations at Map Asia 2007.
